Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer

大輔と二人でいつも見ている子供向け英語番組は、今、クリスマスソング特集。今日の歌は「赤鼻のトナカイ」だった。定番中の定番。むしろ古典。私も大輔も大好きな曲だ。イントロを聞いた途端、大輔大喜び。歌え歌えと催促する。とはいえ、英語で歌うのは少々無理なので、とりあえず日本語で歌う私。歌いながら、画面下に表示される英語の歌詞を見ていた。

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Play in any reindeer games

・・・・知らなかった。赤鼻のトナカイさんの名前が「ルドルフ」だったなんて。（しかもドイツ系。）
